VISITING

Gloucester is only 2 ½ hours from the northern suburbs of Sydney and about 1 ½ from Newcastle. Its hard to imagine a World Heritage listed area that would be easier to access. It is known as Basecamp Barrington Tops and its a perfect place to drop your things and start finding out about the area.

It has a great feel about it this town, you still have that lovely ability to walk up one side of the main road and down the other and feel you are getting to know it, and you can tell that people are proud of the town. Places to sit, mosaic works in the pavement and walls, and the incredible backdrop of The Bucketts that tower over it.

Here's a local landmark now....

There’s always something going on here too, the Art Trail is on every year, the Shakespeare festival in May is great fun, we have a writers festival, a garlic festival in January, the wonderful Gloucester farmers markets, the new Devils Ark tours, there are wineries nearby and a wonderful selection of wellness practitioners here aiming to make the area a real centre for therapeutic escapes. . . Not to mention the annual Motorcycle muster..

Talking of which –the roads in and out of the Gloucester area wind through hills and valleys that always seem green. . . They are said to be the best in NSW if you are on a motorcycle and yearn for some great corners and some breathtaking scenery.

No one can give you a better idea of this area than the volunteers at the Visitors Information Centre.  www.visitgloucester.com.au is a great start. Visit the website for places to stay, and all the events, including the Motorcycle muster!
